The 2018 NFL Draft is less than a month away, meaning the drum up to the event is about to get even louder with the help, of course, of talent evaluators, who all have something to say about each and every top prospect. Among those prospects who have been getting plenty of attention is Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield. While Mayfield is not the popular pick as the best of this year’s quarterback hopefuls, at least one NFL position coach is saying that he is the most accurate, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Speaking of high praise, one NFC quarterbacks coach told me last week that Baker Mayfield is the most accurate signal-caller he’s ever evaluated coming out of college—“He doesn’t miss throws.” His anticipation as a passer is another plus area (it’s him and Sam Darnold atop the class in that category) that shows his game is more than just the competitiveness and creativity he’s known for.

Baker Mayfield is coming off a fantastic college season in Norman. He led the Sooners to 12-2 overall record and a spot in the Rose Bowl. In 2017, Mayfield finished fifth in the nation in passing yards per game (330.5) and second in touchdown passes with 43 as against only six interceptions, so positive comments about his accuracy is something that could be backed up by stats. Moreover, he finished the 2017 season as the nation’s leader in passer rating (198.92).

Mayfield is part of an interesting batch of incoming rookie NFL quarterbacks that also include the likes of Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson. Mayfield is projected to be drafted in the first round with some expecting him to go as high as a top 10 pick. Mayfield still has time to impress teams, and this latest praise from a quarterback coach should only help shoot up his stock.
