It is never too early to begin looking at head coaches on the NFL hot seat. This is especially true when there were plenty of options already sitting there heading into the season. Week 1 just solidified their spot.

Head coaches find themselves on the hot seat after completely destroying their football team on and off the field. They can also earn a spot by underachieving and not having their teams ready to play. The four coaches on this list have accomplished one of those notions. Here are head coaches already sitting on the hot seat after just one game in 2020.

4. Frank Reich, Indianapolis Colts

Reich's third season as head coach of the Colts did not get off to a hot start. He is coaching his third quarterback in as many NFL seasons at the helm. It began with a 10-6 season in 2018 with Andrew Luck under center. After Luck's surprise retirement, the Colts turned to Jacoby Brissett last season and finished 7-9. The win-now Colts signed Philip Rivers to a one-year deal this season but the first game was not a success.

Rivers turned the ball over twice in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was supposed to be a Jaguars' team that struggled to win a game and a Colts' team that had hopes of winning the AFC South. It was just one game but if the Colts continue to underachieve, Reich will not be the coach next season.

3. Dan Quinn, Atlanta Falcons

Quinn took over as head coach of the Falcons in 2015. This his sixth NFL season on the sidelines which is two more than it should be. Quinn has been hanging on by a thread in Atlanta for a long time now. The Falcons have finished 7-9 over the last two years and dropped their season opener to the Seattle Seahawks.

Atlanta was led by Quinn when they blew a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. It looks as though it is going to be another mediocre season in Atlanta. Maybe they will finally make a change at head coach.

2. Matt Patricia, Detroit Lions

There are not many instances where a head coach deserves to be fire after their first season, but there are two on this list. It begins with Patricia in Detroit. The Lions went 6-10 in Patricia's first season and followed it up by going 3-12-1 in 2019. The season opener against the Chicago Bears was a prime example why Patricia needs to go.

The Lions entered the fourth quarter with a 23-6 lead over the Bears. Chicago ended the game by scoring 21 unanswered points and it was yet another blown fourth quarter lead for Patricia. It is only a matter of time before Patricia is let go. It is hard to imagine him lasting the NFL season if it goes bad.

1. Adam Gase, New York Jets

What a mistake it was for the Jets to hire Gase in the first place. After just one season on the sidelines, he should have been gone. At the moment, Gase is the worst coach in football and there are many reasons. First, he has had just one winning season as a head coach in the league. Gase has done nothing to help Sam Darnold take the next step as a quarterback. The 2020 season is going to be a rough one in New York and the saving grace is that Gase will be let go.

In Week 1, the Jets fell behind the Buffalo Bills 21-0 early and could not get anything going on either side of the ball. The Jets looked unprepared and uninspired to play the game. The bottom line is, the Jets will have to acknowledge their mistake and look for a new head coach before the 2021 season.
