Former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield is perhaps the top darkhorse candidate in the 2018 NFL Draft. Given his questionable height, Mayfield has been vocal about modeling his game after New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

It goes without saying that he is still as confident a player as they come. However, Mayfield says he would not mind spending a few years as Brees' potential successor, according to Josh Katzenstein of the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

“I would love that,” Mayfield said. “To be able to learn under him for however long he plays, I’d love that [and] to get a chance to be in New Orleans, a good franchise.”

Brees was not the only respected veteran signal-caller on Mayfield's short list. He has also mentioned New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning as another player he would be excited to learn under, per Tom Rock of Newsday:

Mayfield said that “sitting behind Eli would be a great situation,” especially with Odell Beckham, Sterling Shepard (who also went to Oklahoma) and Evan Engram.

“Throwing the ball to Engram, Shep and Odell wouldn’t be too bad,” Mayfield said. “Those are some studs right there. Being there, that’s a big-time franchise. The spotlight, I think I thrive on that. I think that would be an ideal situation.”

Mayfield has taken plenty of flak for his boisterous personality on the field. Regardless, his draft stock seems to be at an all-time high at the moment. Recent reports even suggest that the Cleveland Browns could be in play for Mayfield's services with either the first or fourth overall pick.

That said, both aforementioned teams have glaring issues at the quarterback position beyond Manning and Brees.  The Giants currently own the second overall pick while the Saints sit at the bottom of the first round at 27th.
