With the majority of the talk surrounding former Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence, former BYU Cougars quarterback Zach Wilson, former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields, and former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones throughout the 2020 college football campaign, former North Dakota State Bison quarterback Trey Lance was mostly forced to watch from the sidelines. However, that all changed on Thursday evening. Lance was selected at No. 3 in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

Even with the aforementioned quartet receiving immense acclaim throughout last season and certainly over the course of the 2021 NFL Draft lead-up, Trey Lance began to make some serious noise these last few weeks as his eventual arrival with the 49ers should hardly come as a surprise.

The 49ers have officially made Trey Lance the third quarterback to be selected on Thursday evening.

The 21-year-old signal caller suited up just once in what would ultimately become his final collegiate season for the famed Bison. Standing at 6'4″ while weighing just over 225 pounds, Trey Lance tossed a pair of touchdown passes alongside one interception in his lone appearance as a junior in 2020-21. He also scored two rushing touchdowns in his lone appearance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, his lone season as North Dakota State's full-time starter under center, which came back in 2019-20, was no doubt one for the ages. Trey Lance famously threw 28 touchdown passes and zero — yes, zero — interceptions in 2019 while adding 2,786 yards through the air as well. He also rushed for an even 1,100 yards in addition to scoring 14 more touchdowns as a rusher.
