Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to be a top candidate at the 2020 NFL Draft, with some mocks having him as a mid-round pick. Hurts, 21, a former signal-caller at Alabama before transferring to Norman, will only work out in front of NFL staff at quarterback—no other position—at the combine.

Per D. Orlando Ledbetter in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“He wants to show people that he’s a quarterback,” trainer Chip Smith said. “That’s the big thing. There is talk about other positions and that kind of stuff. . . .”

“He’s a great athlete. He played in two national championships. He’s got more film than any of the other quarterback out there, . . . he’s a quarterback.”

“He’s a great athlete, and I think that people are more interested in seeing him throw,” Smith said. “They know he’s a great athlete. He’s probably a 4.5, 4.6 guy in the 40. He runs (fast). He can change directions. He’s strong. He’s not going to lift, but he could.”

Hurts had a distinguished collegiate career, earning the SEC's Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 with Alabama and ending his NCAA tenure as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy with Oklahoma this past season. Hurts led the Crimson Tide in the 2017 National Championship Game as a freshman, losing to Clemson, and later the 2018 title game before being benched for Tua Tagovailoa, another top QB in the draft.

After that, Tagovailoa, expected to be a top-10 pick in April's draft, took the reins of Alabama's offense and Hurts transferred a few states away, furthering his impressive college career with the Sooners.

Jalen Hurts, however, is not up for any other positions of business at the combine and intends to compete as a quarterback in his professional career.
