LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson solidified his status as a bona fide blue-chip prospect by running a 4.44 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine. It seems even he was somewhat surprised by his speed.

There had been plenty of speculation regarding how Jefferson's speed would translate to the NFL. He was admittedly impressed with his own time, via Adam Maya of NFL.com:

“The whole question of the whole combine was whether I was going to be fast enough or whether I was going to get a good time in the 40,” Jefferson said.

“Definitely,” Jefferson told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on the latest episode of the RapSheet and Friends podcast. “Everybody from each team thought I was going to run like a 4.5, 4.6., so just going out there and running that 4.4 and just showing the ability, that I have speed, is just (an) extra accessory to my game.”

Jefferson had already been tabbed as one of the best receiver prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft following a stellar 2019 campaign that saw him finish as the nation's most productive wideout en route to a National Championship victory. Regardless, here is no question that his 40 time has provided a major boost to his draft stock.

There are a number of teams that are reportedly targeting Justin Jefferson in the draft. The Green Bay Packers have been pegged as one of the favorite landing spots in early mock drafts. It will be interesting to see if he is still on the board at No. 30 after his showing at the combine.
