As the NFL Draft quickly approaches, the Mac Jones hype train hasn't lost any steam.

Jones has been one of the consistent risers in numerous mock drafts throughout the course of the past month. There is a real chance he could be the San Francisco 49ers' choice with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Now, the Crimson Tide star is also garnering comparisons to the greatest quarterback in league history.

Former Alabama product and Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath told NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano that Jones' footwork reminds him of none other than Tom Brady.

Namath said Jones might not have the mobility of some of the other top quarterback prospects in the class, but said his ability to adjust and make reads could make him the best signal-caller of the bunch.

Namath clarified Brady as being a “one of a kind” quarterback, but still said Jones is perhaps comparable to the guy TB12 was when he was coming out of Michigan.

Of course, Brady was the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Jones will assuredly not fall that far next week. Still, it's an interesting comparison.

Jones does not have the explosive athleticism of a Trey Lance or Justin Fields, nor does he have the arm talent of a Trevor Lawrence or Zach Wilson. But he might be the kind of polished pocket passer who can excel in a particular offensive system. Perhaps that's why there is so much buzz about him going to San Francisco at No. 3.

The 2021 NFL draft will be incredibly top-heavy as far as quarterbacks are concerned. It will be fascinating to see how Jones and the rest of the group fare as they transition to the NFL.
