The suspension of the Big Ten fall schedule due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons to opt-out of playing his third season in the collegiate ranks. The 21-year old has decided to put his effort into preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft instead.

He now has a six-month lead time to work on his skills and conditioning, instead of the usual six-week preparation span.

“I've never had this much free time,” said Micah Parsons in a phone interview earlier this week. “I don't know what to do with myself.”

The Pennsylvania native had the choice to conclude his collegiate career early as he has already established himself as one of the highly-touted prospects in next year's draft class. Despite only playing two seasons for the Nittany Lions, Parsons has had an eventful career in the amateur ranks.

He was a 2018 first-team Freshman All-American, 2019 first-team All-American, and a 2019 first-team All-Big Ten member. He also snagged the 2019 Big Ten Linebacker of the Year award and 2019 Cotton Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player honor.

Micah Parsons now trains with Proactive Sports Performance head trainer Ryan Capretta along with former USC Trojans defensive lineman Jay Tufele ahead of the NFL Draft. Having plenty of time to train for the combine is far preferable as compared to having too little.

Despite having the luxury of time on his hands, Parsons and his team are only taking the progression slowly in order to avoid overtraining or having a mental burnout. The rookie hopeful will ensure to continuously work on himself so that he will be in his best form by the time of the 2021 NFL Draft proceedings.
