The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the first overall selection of the NFL draft coming up in late April. It's a foregone conclusion they'll be selecting Trevor Lawrence, as it's been reported the Jaguars have already given him their playbook.

Lawrence has been in the spotlight since his freshman year at Clemson, where he took the football world by storm. He's been viewed as the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck, which bodes well for Jacksonville's future.

However, the former Clemson Tiger made headlines recently after claiming he doesn't have a huge chip on his shoulder, per Sports Illustrated. During an interview, Lawrence was asked about his passion for the game, where his response stirred a commotion on social media.

“It's hard to explain that because I want people to know that I'm passionate about what I do and it's really important to me, but . . . I don't have this huge chip on my shoulder, that everyone's out to get me and I'm trying to prove everybody wrong,” he says. “I just don't have that. I can't manufacture that. I don't want to.”

A vastly different response compared to the likes of Tom Brady, who frequently plays with a chip on his shoulder after being drafted in the fifth round back in 2000. However, Trevor Lawrence has had a much different experience when it comes to scouting and gaining attention. According to Mike Florio, Lawrence provides clarification on how he does not need that chip on the shoulder mentality to be a top player.

“It's not like I need this for my life to be OK,” he tells Michael Rosenberg of SI.com. “I want to do it because I want to be the best I can be. I want to maximize my potential. Who wouldn’t want to? You kind of waste it if you don’t.”

It's interesting to see a player with this mentality, as it's rare to hear. A lot of athletes will generate ways to create an underdog mentality to push them further. However, for Lawrence, he's been a top prospect forever, and just simply wants to be the best.
