Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the presumptive No. 1 pick for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft, will undergo surgery on his left shoulder to repair the labrum, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Lawrence's recovery timeline, per Rapoport, is 5-to-6 months, putting his return—when, by then, he will be an NFL rookie—at around training camp for the 2021 season. For what it's worth, Lawrence throws righty.

Friday saw the Clemson standout and Heisman Trophy runner-up throw for his pro day, conveniently holding a tryout in front of scouts a month before Clemson's pro day so Lawrence could undergo shoulder surgery. A College Football Playoff national champion in 2018, Trevor Lawrence has long been linked as the likely first-overall pick in April's NFL Draft, where the Jacksonville Jaguars possess the top selection.

The Jaguars recently made a switch at head coach, replacing longtime leader Doug Marrone for former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer. Meyer reportedly directed Lawrence to hold his pro day a month before Clemson's in order to get his shoulder repaired and give college's best signal-caller time to recover before the NFL season.

Along with Lawrence, the NFL Draft's top quarterbacks include Ohio State product Justin Fields and BYU's Zach Wilson. All three are expected to be first-round selections on April 29.

The Jaguars in 2020 started a revolving door of quarterbacks under center with former sixth-round selection Gardner Minshew apparently out of favor in the organization. Along with Minshew (8), the one-win Jaguars last season also saw Mike Glennon (5) and Jake Luton (3) start ball games. The anticipated arrival of Trevor Lawrence will more than likely change the QB hierarchy in Jacksonville.
