The San Antonio Spurs, one of the most heralded teams in NBA history, always seem to get the player the team covets. With veteran tight end Rob Gronkowski formally retiring from the NFL on Sunday evening, the New England Patriots would surprise absolutely no one if the franchise was able to add wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft.

With “Gronk” officially hanging up his cleats, the Patriots will need to fill a massive void in the passing game — which could bring the aforementioned Samuel into play for New England.

“Tyshun ‘Deebo' Samuel lives up to his nickname (it comes from a tough guy in the movie ‘Friday') and plays each game like he's stepping into an alley fight,” reads Samuel's NFL.com draft profile. “While Samuel is tough and competitive, he lacks suddenness and might need scheme help with motion and bunch formations to help free him against NFL man coverage. He is a gamer who thrives once the ball is in his hands, and he might be able to help a team from the slot if he can stay healthy.”

The former South Carolina standout would certainly serve as a viable option for the Patriots, who not only had “Gronk” retire on Sunday, but previously missed out on former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Adam Humphries earlier in the offseason. A free agent this offseason, Humphries ultimately passed on the Patriots in order to sign with the Tennessee Titans. As a result, the Patriots are in the rare position of having multiple holes to fill.
