Two NFC franchises, the New York Giants and Chicago Bears, had a fairly calm first round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday. That is, one club picked in the top five, and another didn't even have a selection. Now the Giants and Bears will look to trade up on Day 2 at the (virtual) draft.

In what is considered to be a loaded second- and third-round draft class this year, the Giants and Bears are two teams active in calling other clubs trying to trade up today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Giants went with a simple choice of taking rising sophomore quarterback Daniel Jones' newest pocket protector in Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, one of the highest-rated offensive linemen coming out of college. They made no move to creep in the back of the first round on Thursday night, and on Friday, they possess the fourth overall pick of the evening again, with the 36th overall selection in the draft.

The Bears, meanwhile, did not even have a pick to make last night in the first round. They own a pair of second-round picks today, though, which could be put to good use if they can make a convincing trade package for a team in front of them on Friday to trade up and take a sought-after player. Chicago has several pressing needs in the draft, like help in the secondary along with another receiver for rising fourth-year signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky, which could give the 25-year-old another target on offense.

The Bears have been linked to Alabama safety Xavier McKinney but would have to trade up in the second round if the front office does not believe he will be there when they pick 11th in the round (the 43rd overall pick).
