To no one's surprise, the Washington Redskins are expected to take Ohio State defensive lineman Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Breer says that the Redskins have been “aggressive in cross-checking their information” on Young and that they are “poised to sit right where they are” and take him at No. 2.

There had been some chatter last month that Washington could potentially select Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at that spot, which had many scratching their heads given the fact that the Redskins took Dwayne Haskins at No. 15 last year.

But that appeared to be either a false rumor or just a smokescreen on Washington's part to try and create some leverage for teams who may have wanted to trade up to take Tagovailoa.

The Redskins are in desperate need of a pass rusher, so their heavy interest in Young is natural.

Young is coming off of a junior campaign in which he racked up 46 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles.

The 21-year-old arrived at Ohio State in 2017 and had an uneventful freshman season, logging just 18 tackles, five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

However, the following year, Young's role grew exponentially, as he finished with 34 tackles, 14,5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble and five passes defended.

Washington went just 3-13 in 2019 and has been one of the least successful franchises in the NFL over the better part of the last three decades, making just five playoff appearances since 1993.
