Through the entire pre-draft process, former USC quarterback Sam Darnold has been long viewed as being one of the top projected selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. In fact, he has been ingrained in the conversation for the first overall pick held by the Cleveland Browns.

It has been a grueling process with the Browns still not clear on what direction they will head at the selection that will come on Thursday night. During a recent interview with Pro Football Talk Live, Darnold voiced that he has avoided looking at the mock drafts because he believes it would have been a huge mental stress on him.

“I haven’t looked at mock drafts,” Darnold said. “If I looked at those a lot I think I would drive myself insane. With the draft coming up I’m just trying to spend time with my family and close friends. There’s so many mock drafts out there I haven’t been able to keep up with them.”

There has been plenty of teetering back and forth over the last few months as each of the top prospects have been projected to be the first overall pick. The last conversation has seen former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen enter the conversation as a legitimate possibility as the first prospect off the board later this week.

However, Darnold has been long viewed as being the safest prospect at his position due to what he brings on the field behind with a strong and accurate arm. He has also demonstrated that he can lead a team to success behind his arm and leadership ability, which has only further strengthened his stock and promise to become a legitimate star quarterback in the NFL.

This entire process will come to a stretching halt on Thursday night as he will finally know where he will begin his career when he hears his name called.
