It goes without saying that Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is one of the best prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft. He put a stamp on that notion with arguably the most impressive performance in the combine.

With players having gone through their strenuous training regimens to prepare for the combine, it is common for them to take some time off to rest. However, during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio interview with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt, Barkley was adamant about continuing to work and staying in peak shape leading up to the draft:

“A lot of vets and NFL guys and even coaches I've talked to say people when they're done with the Combine think, ‘That's it,'” Barkley said. “They think they've made it and it's, ‘Oh, now I just have to get to the draft. I did what I had to do.'

“No. You've still got work to do. You can't take time off.”

Pushing his body to the limit is something that Barkley has become accustomed to doing for some time now.  At 6-foot, 220 pounds, he already possesses the stature of a prototypical workhorse running back. He also checks every box in terms of speed of power. Barkley finished near the top in every notable event at the combine with 29 reps on the bench press, a 4.4 40-yard dash, and a 41-inch vertical.

However, it seems he is looking to refine his conditioning before going to whichever team selects him. After emerging as a bonafide top-5 pick, there are now reports that the Cleveland Browns are seriously considering taking him with the first overall pick.
