The NFL caused a small uproar when UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin was left off the initial list of players invited to this year’s Combine in Indianapolis. The former Knight eventually received his invitation. According to his test results, it safe to say that he certainly belongs there (and in the NFL).

After opening eyes on the bench press test, he dazzled and amazed the masses with the fastest 40-yard dash by a linebacker since 2003. How fast? Let’s just say there are very few players that are ever going to outrun him (4.38 seconds).

According to Yahoo Sports NFL Columnist Charles Robinson, it was also the second fastest time for a player weighing over 225 pounds since official times have been recorded (he’s 227 lbs.). The only guy to beat him out was former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, Matt Jones.

For the bench press on Saturday, he completed 20 repetitions of 225 pounds using a prosthetic hand.

Shaquem Griffin is an easy player to cheer for. At the age of four, his left hand got amputated due to issues caused by Amniotic Band Syndrome.

But that didn’t stop him from becoming a star linebacker for the UCF Knights.

What he’ll play in the NFL will depend on who drafts him. He’s a little small at 227 pounds to play linebacker. That's certainly too small to play defensive end as well. During practice at the Senior Bowl he worked out at defensive end, linebacker, and safety. According to all reports, he performed well throughout the week.
