The New York Giants have undergone some serious changes to both their coaching staff and player personnel going into the offseason. As a result, there had been some speculation regarding cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie's future with the team.

Needless to say, it was not long before he was released by the Giants last weekend. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Rodergs-Cromartie is in no rush to decide on where to join this offseason:

Free agent CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has indicated to me that he's in no rush to make a decision in free agency, at this time. As for when DRC is– currently– hoping to make a decision & sign, he told me this morning, “in April sometime.”

Early on, it appeared as though the Giants were going to ask Rodgers-Cromartie to switch to safety. They ultimately wound up deciding to simply cut ties altogether when he declined a pay cut.

Following his release, he was quickly courted by NFC East Division rival Washington Redskins. However, it is clear that no deal was ever reached. Judging by his recent comments, there is no indication of their talks picking back up anytime soon. As a result, Rodgers-Cromartie will now play the waiting game this offseason.

Fortunately, his prospects bode well moving forward considering the market for defensive backs has been plucked dry this offseason. That said, the former two-time Pro Bowler could garner plenty of interest from teams looking to fortify their secondary leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft. Although he is coming off a down 2017 campaign, perhaps a change of scenery could be just what he needs to get back to his old form.
