The New Orleans Saints have donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross as part of the relief effort for Hurricane Laura, and the NFL is matching the donation.

Washington receiver Trey Quinn—a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana—is spearheading an effort within the league to raise funds, and the NFL Foundation is chipping in towards the relief effort (per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk):

The NFL Foundation announced Wednesday it will match the Saints’ $250,000 contribution to the American Red Cross. The funds will support three different nonprofits – American Red Cross of Louisiana, Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana and Feeding Louisiana – all of which are helping those severely impacted by Hurricane Laura.

The Saints have plenty of history with devastating natural disasters.

In fact, the New Orleans Superdome was used as a shelter for those displaced from their homes during Hurricane Katrina. The Saints also provided one of the most inspiring moments of the 2006 season by way of Steve Gleason's blocked punt.

Hurricane Laura mostly impacted areas of Louisiana and Texas, though Lake Charles was among the towns that faced the most devastation.

Quinn has started a GoFundMe page to raise money:

I'm raising money in conjunction with United Way of Southwest Louisiana where 100% of donations will go towards Hurricane Laura immediate response and long-term recovery efforts. United Way of Southwest Louisiana is on the ground to assist where hundreds of thousands of people are still without power or water. Any donation no matter how small will help make an impact.

Quinn's efforts are receiving a boost from both the Saints and the NFL, with all entities hoping to get Lake Charles and the rest of southwest Louisiana back on its feet.
