One of the big issues for Newton right now is the Coronavirus pandemic. Because of the pandemic, no teams have been able to give him a physical, which is a big issue for a player coming off of major shoulder surgery, An outside doctor can clear him, but teams want their own physicians to give him the thumbs up before offering him him a contract.

One team that Newton was connected to early in the offseason was the Los Angeles Chargers. They went in a different direction, drafting Justin Herbert, but Chargers coach Anthony Lynn is confident that he will find a job before the start of the 2020 season. Lynn said of the veteran on a recent CBS Sports Radio interview:

We did take a look at that … Cam's a tremendous quarterback. He's been an MVP of this league, he's led his team to a Super Bowl and he's healthy now, from what I hear. Cam's going to be on somebody's roster. He's going to help somebody win a few games.”

The question with Newton is always going to be about health, but if he is physically ready to go there is no doubt he is going to make some team better, even if it is just serving as a backup who is ready if a starter suffers an injury.
