The 2020 NFL season got off to a rough start for the Houston Texans following their 34-20 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins then seemingly wasted no time in throwing shade at his former team with a cryptic post on Twitter.

Hopkins has since clarified his tweet suggesting that he was referring to his virtual appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

Although Hopkins may be trying to backtrack on any potential hard feelings he may have toward the Texans, the timing of the post still leaves questions regarding his intentions. Regardless, there is no question that he has plenty to be grateful for that does not have to do with his former team.

DeAndre Hopkins upping his star power with an appearance on a television show is a solid reason to take time to stop and smell the rose. Of course, it could also have to do with the fact that he managed to negotiate his own two-year contract extension that includes a $27.5 million signing bonus and $42.75 million in guaranteed money. The deal also includes a no-trade clause as well as a no franchise tag clause.

While Hopkins may have underwent quite the change of scenery this offseason, it is safe to assume that it has worked out for the best so far. He is now looking to follow it up with another stellar season as part of this revamped Cardinals offense. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Texans as they now look to bounce back from a lopsided loss in Week 1.
