With the NFL schedule release set to get underway on Wednesday night, fans are starting to get a glimpse at how things are taking shape for week 1 of the 2021 season.

As always there are many matchups that will have fans salivating and that's the case once again this year.

CBS released their week 1 schedule for the network on Tuesday morning and some of these head-to-head battles will leave you wishing it was already September.

The one that immediately jumps off the page of week 1 of the NFL on CBS is the late afternoon which will be headlined by the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes against the Browns and Baker Mayfield.

However, when taking a second glance, there's a revenge game right out of the gate.

Sam Darnold, who was traded from the Jets to the Panthers in the offseason will get to square off against his old team in Carolina to start the 2021 season. A battle of Darnold vs. Zach Wilson is appointment television even for two teams that struggled mightily last year.

Other matchups include: Kyler Murray's Cardinals heading to Nashville to face the Titans, Justin Herbert against that vaunted Washington defensive line in D.C., Ben Roethlisberger taking the Steelers into Buffalo against Josh Allen and, Trevor Lawrence likely starting his first career NFL game on the road at Houston against the Texans.

More schedule ā€œleaksā€ will come throughout the day and per the usual, they are to be taken with a grain of salt. But when CBS is releasing their schedule themselves, these are contests that you can etch into stone as September appears so far away yet so close at present time.
