Although not quite as beloved as an NFL player, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been getting all the love since entering the booth last season. Since becoming an NFL commentator for CBS before the 2017 campaign, Romo has arguably become one of the sport's most popular faces in a stunning turn of events.

Now, in a no-brainer move, it appears as though CBS is looking to keep Romo around a little longer.

According to a Monday report from Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, CBS wants to retain Romo the commentator on a long-term basis. Unexpectedly talented in the booth, Romo could cause quite the chaotic sweepstakes for his services if he were ever to become a free agent broadcaster. Romo's current contract with CBS is set to expire after next season.

“Before that can happen, CBS is prepared to give Romo a substantial raise from, according to sources, the $4 million range that he currently makes. Next year is the final season of his three-year contract. It is hard to see how he does not become the highest-paid NFL TV analyst,” writes Marchand.

It is also worth noting that the 38-year-old Romo is now gearing up to call Super Bowl LIII, a February 3rd matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.

“If Romo does make it to free agency, CBS would have the right to match an offer,” Marchand continues. “CBS has a history of negotiating contract renewals early and, with someone like Romo, the network is trying to implement this strategy again, according to sources.”
