The Los Angeles Rams outlasted the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night in a thrilling 54-51 win in what was the highest-scoring game in Monday Night Football history.

It was an enticing game throughout with plenty of offense on display on both sides with each team showcasing why are considered two of the best in the league. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, this contest also earned the recognition of being the highest-rated Monday Night Football Game on ESPN in over four years.

The Rams’ 54-51 win drew an 11.3 overnight rating, which makes it the highest-rated Monday Night Football game on ESPN in more than four years.

In the weeks leading up to the contest, there was plenty of buzz about these two teams potentially putting on an offensive show and it was everything that it was booked out to be at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Monday night. The stadium had an electric atmosphere to go along with the impressive aerial assault that both young star quarterbacks put on display in the contest.

Patrick Mahomes showed why is considered one of the frontrunners for the MVP award as he completed 33-of-46 passes for 478 yards with six touchdown passes. This marked the sixth this season that has notched four more touchdown passes and the second time that he accomplished that feat. Meanwhile, Jared Goff more than held his own end of the bargain as he put up his own huge outing by completing 31-of-49 passes for 413 yards with four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.

Although it was a contest that was highlighted by the play of the explosive offenses, there was plenty of big plays defensively on both sides that were game-changers. Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald had two strip sacks while his team had two defensive touchdowns and three interceptions. Meanwhile, the Chiefs also forced two fumbles on Goff and one defensive touchdown. Simply put, it was everything that was hoped to be and the large viewership of the contest shouldn't be surprising in any manner.
