Former NFL running back Clinton Portis is back in the news, and not in a good way. The ex-Denver Broncos and Washington Football team running back has run into some legal issues that could land him in jail.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Portis could face 10 years in jail for health care fraud.

Portis has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years and a fine of not more than $250,000 or twice the gross financial gain from the fraud. He will make restitution of $99,264 to the Gene Upshaw NFL Players Health Reimbursement Account Plan.

The former NFL running back was in court, and they couldn't come to a decision, but it appears that now Portis has decided to plead guilty and face the consequences due to health care fraud. The maximum sentence is 10 years.

Portis last played in the NFL with Washington more than a decade ago and was a Pro Bowl talent on the Broncos before he was traded out of Denver. But, Portis made false claims and the health care fraud issue is a big one, and it will be worth monitoring to see just how long Portis is sentenced to jail time.
