Colin Kaepernick's agent has contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints about a possible roster spot, according to Stephen A. Smith of ESPN.

All three teams have seen their starting quarterbacks go down with either injuries or health issues.

For the Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season due to an elbow issue that requires surgery, and compounding the problem is the fact that Pittsburgh traded fellow quarterback Josh Dobbs to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, leaving second-year signal-caller Mason Rudolph as the only quarterback on the roster.

The Jets have lost Sam Darnold indefinitely to mono, and on Monday night, backup quarterback Trevor Siemian suffered an ankle injury that knocked him out for the remainder of the season. Like Pittsburgh, New York has only one signal-caller remaining on its roster, and, also like Pittsburgh, that is a second-year player (Luke Falk).

The Saints will be without Drew Brees for quite a while after he underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. New Orleans has a perfectly capable replacement in Teddy Bridgewater, so adding Kaepernick with Brees set to return at some point this season is probably a bit unrealistic.

The Steelers seem like the best landing spot, given that they are the only club Kaepernick's agent has contacted that will be without their starting quarterback for the rest of the year.

However, as Smith notes, none of the teams Kaepernick's agent have gotten in touch with seem interested in signing him.

Kaepernick has been out of the NFL since 2016.
