Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay had strong words for former head coach Matt Patricia after the Lions flipped Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

Slay had been openly vocal of his displeasure with the franchise after they traded former safety, Quandre Diggs, last October.

But Slay said he had lost all respect for Patricia even before that deal was made.

Slay is signing a three-year, $50 million extension with the Eagles that will make him the highest-paid corner in the game in terms of annual average value.

He had practically been begging the Lions to trade him for much of the offseason, especially after Detroit signed veteran corner Desmond Trufant on Wednesday.

But Slay also made sure to thank some of his former teammates and coaches, also thanking the fans and the city for their support.

As for Patricia, it is interesting to hear he lost the locker room early.

Patricia had been a guy that came up on the “Patriot Way,” with former Pats head coach Bill Belichick setting the standard for culture in the locker room. It seems Patricia has had a hard time carrying that over to the Lions. He is just 9-22 in two seasons, and the Lions have entered trade rumor territory with respect to franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The Lions own the No.3 overall pick in the NFL Draft this April, which has created some speculation about potentially trading Stafford and selecting one of the top quarterback prospects (such as Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa.

Regardless, Patricia surely must do better in 2020 if he hopes to keep his job.
