Darrelle Revis, one of the best man-to-man cornerbacks in NFL history, did not enjoy Richard Sherman's performance in the San Francisco 49ers' NFC Championship win over the Green Bay Packers.

Why? The scheme Sherman plays in with the 49ers.

Sherman, since his days with the Seattle Seahawks, has played comfortably in a Cover 3 scheme, which is a zone. Revis, who made his money as a man-to-man cornerback, discounts the 49ers cornerback's greatness, because of what he has succeeded in.

Every snap every play,” Revis said on Twitter. “The fact that he doesn’t travel as a cornerback is lame. [Accept] the challenge as the best and shut [Davante] Adams down the entire game. Do it for the game of football. Stop hiding [in] a cover 3 zone.”

Sherman caught the game-ending interception and had three combined tackles in the win over the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers rarely targeted his side of the field. Revis was not impressed, but he did claim that he wasn't throwing shade at Sherman.

“All y’all think I’m throwing shade,” Revis said. “I’m not. Just stating the man is not a pound for pound man to man corner. If you know the game of football he plays in a Cover 3 Scheme. He does not travel but traveling with a receiver is not for every DB. It’s a few on the corner list who can.”

The reality of the matter is that Richard Sherman will be playing in the Super Bowl at age 31 while Darrelle Revis will be watching from the couch. Revis has not played since 2017 when he was 32. He became a liability in coverage by 2016 and showed true signs of wear in 2015 when he was 29.

The zone cornerback has continued greatness, while the man-to-man one had one of the greatest primes ever.
