Former NFL running back Darren McFadden has been arrested and charged with a DWI after recently falling asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle, according to police, via The Dallas News. Now facing charges of both driving while intoxicated (DWI) and resisting arrest, McFadden was detained by police after being found asleep in the drive-thru lane of a Whataburger fast food restaurant.

The 31-year-old was formally arrested early Monday morning in McKinney, Texas.

“McFadden, 31, faces charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, search or transport. He was released on personal recognizance a short time after being taken into custody, jail records show.”

“Employees at that fast-food restaurant in the 9000 block of West University Drive reported a man asleep in his vehicle in the drive-thru just after midnight, McKinney police said.”

After starring for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks at the collegiate level, McFadden was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. After spending his first seven NFL seasons in Oakland as a member of the Raiders, McFadden then joined the Dallas Cowboys for another three go-rounds before eventually hanging up his cleats for good back in 2017-18.

For his NFL career as a whole, McFadden ran for 5,421 yards and 28 rushing touchdowns on 1,302 carries. He appeared in 103 regular season games at the highest level.
