Former football player and sometime celebrity Peyton Manning will have a new gig soon, if the powers that be get their way.

According to NBC Sports, Manning took a meeting with ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro and content chief Connor Schell on March 11 to discuss the potential of working the gig.

Although no further details have been released about the matter, nor have any details been released about Manning's interest — or lack thereof — in the gig, he is certainly considered the favorite for the position by the ESPN brass.

ESPN already employs Peyton Manning as a color commentator in different capacities. Although Manning does video analysis of quarterbacks for ESPN+, working in the booth would be a much bigger time commitment — one that is possibly more than Manning is willing to make.

However, Manning isn't the only one in the running for the gig.

Should he turn it down, the task will fall to Joe Tessitore to report on the Monday Night Football play-by-plays, with Booger McFarland as the analyst.

From a different report for NBC Sports:

“Jim Miller, who wrote the definitive oral history of ESPN, said in an appearance on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast (via SportsBusiness Daily) that the four-letter network likely will go with a two-person booth for Monday Night Football in 2019. Joe Tessitore will handle the play-by-play responsibilities, and Booger McFarland will provide the analysis.”

Peyton Manning is expected to make a decision about his future, soon, so it will be interesting to see what he decides to do.

And, of course, we will keep you apprised of all developments.
