The coronavirus pandemic has caused other sports leagues to cancel their seasons, but the NFL doesn’t look like it will be affected in the same manner. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, a source close to the league says there is an ‘extremely small’ chance there will be on NFL season in 2020.

So far this offseason, the NFL has had to postpone certain events and make alterations to others — including the 2020 Draft. While this year’s draft was expected to be held in Las Vegas, the NFL was forced to cancel the venue. As a result, they chose to hold the draft virtually.

Besides the draft, the league also had to postpone the annual owner meetings and free agency was handled a bit differently than usual. Due to the inability to conduct physicals, some free agents remain unsigned.

On the other hand, the NFL has to begin looking for a contingency plan in case the regular season can’t be played on time. Even if it does, the league has already begun considering all options. That includes an idea that involves having no fans or limited crowds in stadiums.

For the time being, the 2020 NFL season is scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 10. At the same time, the Super Bowl is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 7.

Of course, those dates could be subject to change if the NFL is forced to make changes. Regardless of when the season takes place, the NFL plans on having a regular season at some point this year.
