Former NFL and Texas Longhorns star running back Cedric Benson passed away overnight in a motorcycle accident at the age of 36, per reports. According to the report, Benson's accident happened in Austin, Texas, the same town where he played his college ball.

Austin Emergency officials told the Austin American Statesmen that they are investigating a crash in the 5600 block of Mount Bonnell Road that occurred after 10 p.m. Saturday night. According to the officials, Benson and a passenger were killed and two other adults who were involved in the crash were injured, but they aren't expected to be life-threatening.

Benson was a standout with the Longhorns rushing for 1,834 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior. He finished with 5,540 yards in Austin, which gave him the school rushing record.

He was drafted with the fourth overall pick by the Chicago Bears and also played with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers in his eight-year career. His best year was in 2009 with the Bengals when he rushed for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns.

Benson was also a standout outfielder and actually was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2001. He appeared in nine games for the GCL rookie league club but decided to hang up the cleats to focus on football and the Longhorns.
