Michael Irvin endured plenty of battles on the field during his playing days with the Dallas Cowboys. But his experience with COVID-19 seemed to have taken a lot out of him.

During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Michael Irvin detailed his ‘hellish' battle with the coronavirus.

“I didn’t know I had it, and then I got real sick,” Michael Irvin said, via the Rich Eisen Show. “I mean, a pounding headache for like four or five days. You couldn’t eat. You can’t sleep. You’ve just got to endure the pain. I took two tests. They all came back negative. So I’m thinking, ‘OK, I’m good. I don’t have it. I don’t have it.’ But I’m feeling the pain, and then after I went through about three weeks of hell — about three weeks of hell — I said, ‘OK, I’m going to go and take the antibody test,’ because it had to be something. It had to be COVID.

Michael Irvin continued:

“There’s no way I went through that kind of pain, that kind of hell, and nobody knows what it is. Then, I’m scared it may come back. So I took the antibody test, and of course the antibody test, which I think is more accurate, came back that I had the antibodies. My doctor said I should be pretty good now.”

Michael Irvin was a spectacular athlete during his NFL career with the Cowboys. In his 12 seasons in Dallas, Irvin caught 750 passes for 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns. As a result, he would be inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.

At 54 years old, Michael Irvin is still an energetic character on NFL Network, sometimes showing fans that he can still run routes and catch passes. Despite him appearing to be a healthy former athlete, Irvin still managed to contract COVID-19.

Besides Michael Irvin, Ezekiel Elliott of the Cowboys also tested positive for the coronavirus this offseason. Fortunately for both of them, they seem to be healthy again and were able to overcome a disease that has killed thousands of people already.
