While his former team, the Green Bay Packers, play tonight, safety Josh Jones will be looking for his new NFL home. ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports that Jones is visiting with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday and the Detroit Lions next week. ESPN's Adam Schefter previously stated that he visited with the Buffalo Bills. The only thing to draw from this is that Jones likes cold weather and the NFC North.

Jones requested a trade earlier in the summer, but that's not how it worked out in Green Bay. Instead, the Packers released him while making cuts to get down to a 53-man roster. A 2017 second-round pick, Jones started in 12 of his 29 games played donning green and yellow.

Jones' frustration with the Packers was evident. In training camp, he hit running back Tra Carson after a play was blown dead. After, head coach Matt LaFleur sat him. Before then, he skipped voluntary offseason workouts — hoping for a trade after requesting one.

For the Packers, cutting him was expected; he was expendable in the first place after the Packers poached Adrian Amos from Chicago and free agency and drafted Darnell Savage in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Neither the Vikings or Lions are in a particular need for a starting safety. Jones would stand as a backup option behind Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris and Tracy Walker and Quandre Diggs in Detroit. Maybe one of the teams can get his career back on track after a disappointing first two years in Green Bay.
