Free agent linebacker Vontaze Burfict was recently arrested in Nevada on a misdemeanor battery charge, as per ESPN. According to Clark County Detention Center records, the 30-year-old is currently being held on a $1,000 bond with a hearing already set for Monday.

The former Arizona State product was a mainstay on the Cincinnati Bengals squad who signed him as an undrafted free agent after the 2012 NFL Draft. In his second season in the league, Burfict immediately made noise and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl along with a second-team All-Pro selection back in 2013.

He managed to stay in the Queen City and eventually emerged as a staple in their defensive rotation for many years. Burfict later concluded his seven-year run with the team back in 2018 when the Bengals finally decided to release him.

The California native was not out in the open market for long as he eventually signed a one-year deal with the then-Oakland Raiders a day after he was waived. His 2019 season was marred by an incident in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts when he had a helmet-to-helmet hit with tight end Jack Doyle during the game.

Vontaze Burfict was ejected and was suspended by the league for the remainder of the season. He managed to be reinstated by the league in December of 2019 and also expressed his intentions to return to the league. After his contract with the Raiders expired, he failed to find any interest from teams to make his comeback possible.

His recent involvement in the case just made his plans to return to the league even harder to achieve. More details regarding the incident will be made clearer in the coming days.
