Garth Brooks believed he was paying homage when he wore a Barry Sanders jersey during a concert in Detroit. But some fans were clueless about the reasoning of the country singer wearing the jersey. Due to the confusion, Brooks was ripped for wearing a Sanders jersey by some fans who thought it was in support of Bernie Sanders.

Brooks, an Oklahoma native, actually attended Oklahoma State University in college. Of course, that is where the legendary running back for the Lions went to college as well.

In addition, Brooks was performing in Detroit and thought it would be fitting to wear Sanders' jersey. However, some supporters of Donald Trump were disgusted with Brooks after thinking it was to share his support for Bernie Sanders, one of the democratic candidates in the upcoming election.

It's definitely unfortunate that Sanders wore the No. 20 jersey during his career in the NFL. Still, it's peculiar as to how someone isn't aware of why Brooks made the decision to wear his jersey.

Following the saga on Brooks' social media, the Lions' Twitter account chose to get in on the fun. In an attempt to insert some humor into the situation, Detroit's Twitter account posted an image with Barry running for president.

Additionally, the Hall of Fame running back jokingly reached out to Brooks to express his interest in being his vice president. It remains to be seen if Brooks is willing to be involved in the running back's campaign.

Regardless of where you stand in politics, this is absolutely hilarious. After seeing the reactions from his fans, it's safe to say that Brooks will probably be cautious of wearing his Sanders jersey until next year.
