The Kansas City Chiefs are signing Jamaal Charles to a one-day contract so he can retire with the team, according to 610 Sports Radio out of Kansas City.

Charles was selected in the third round of 2008 by the Chiefs and during nine years with the club finished with 7,260 yards. Charles tore his ACL during a game against the Chicago Bears in 2015 and after that he was never the same.

The Chiefs released him in February of 2017 and soon after he signed on with the Broncos, but he wasn't used a ton. He also played in two games with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year before being released by them.

Earlier in April, Charles was asked if he would try to make a comeback in the league, and he was still undecided.

“It’s in the air right now,” Charles told TMZ via Arrowhead Pride. “I’m going to sit down with my family and try to go through the process of what’s the best thing for me and us, and I’ll move on from there [with] what my wife and my advisors say.”

Charles was also asked if he thought he would be a Hall of Famer and he said he wasn't sure about that, but either way he is happy with his life.

“It’s a possibility,” he said, “but I’m happy either way it goes. I’m happy in life. I’m happy right now. I’m just enjoying the ride while I can.”

Charles holds the NFL record for yards per attempt, sitting at 5.4 throughout his entire career.
