It has been more than two years since Johnny Manziel last stepped on the football for an official professional game. This long wait finally came to an end on Saturday night as he made his Spring Football League debut.

Manziel was able to play in two-quarters of action in the first half completing nine of 15 passes for a touchdown pass in his limited time on the field. His lone touchdown pass came on a vintage play from the 25-year-old that saw him scramble out of the pocket and connect with his wide receiver in the corner of the end zone that came.

This play came on his sixth consecutive completed pass to start the game that was extended to seven before finishing nine of 15 on attempts for 82 yards. Although it was not a standout performance by any means from Manziel, it was a step in the right direction for him in his long quest to get back into the NFL.

Nonetheless, Manziel was excited about the opportunity to return to the football field in more than 800 days to play in a competitive game, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN.

“It's disappointing, some of the things that happened,” he said, “but nevertheless, it's a huge step for me. I put pads back on. A lot of people wrote me off just to even get to this point. I'm definitely emotional about it. I'm definitely happy about it. This isn't the end goal for me, but I'm having fun again. I have a smile on my face.”

The next opportunity for Manziel to take the field will be on April 12 with there being one more set of games to play in the Spring Football League, which could be another time for him to potentially spark the interest of any potential NFL teams.

Manziel has already stated he could possibly make a two-year commitment to the play in the Candian Football League if there is no opportunity presented to him get back into the NFL. Things could quite interesting over the next couple of weeks for Manziel in his long quest.
