The coronavirus has made its way into the United States and the NFL is going to make sure they are cautious with how they handle the upcoming events. During the final days of the NFL Combine, the league is ‘closely monitoring’ coronavirus developments:

“We are closely monitoring developments and have been in contact with The World Health Organization, CDC and the NFL-NFLPA medical experts at the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON) Program for Infection Prevention,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT on Sunday via email. “We will continue those discussions throughout our offseason.”

The reason why the league is paying close attention to the virus is due to the league meetings scheduled soon. In the next month, the NFL is slated to hold their league meetings in Palm Beach. However, that could change if the coronavirus spreads further.

Also, there are owners in the NFL that could face health risks by being exposed to the virus. Therefore, it is crucial that the NFL stays informed on what is going on with the coronavirus moving forward.

Of course, the virus could prevent the NFL from holding public events in the near future. It also could cause agents to be wary of traveling to meet with teams at the beginning of free agency.

In the event that the virus worsens, the league could take action by postponing the meetings or relocating them. On the other hand, the 2020 NFL Draft could be negatively affected by the coronavirus.

Over the next few weeks, we should have a better grasp on what the effects could be from the coronavirus as it pertains to the NFL.
