Many wondered what type of product the NFL would produce amid a shortened offseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apparently, it generates a product that's all about offense. Despite the lack of an offseason, there have been more points and touchdowns scored in the first two weeks of the season than in any opening two weeks in league history.

Through the first two weeks of the season, all 32 teams have combined to score a total of 1,611 points. Before smashing the record in 2020, the record for the most points in the first two weeks came in 2012 when teams scored 1,556 points.

In addition to the most points being scored, teams have accumulated 186 touchdowns in Weeks 1 and 2 this season. The previous record for touchdowns in the first two weeks of an NFL season was in 2018 when 174 touchdowns were recorded.

Just by looking at the numbers, it's evident that offenses benefited more than defenses from a shortened offseason. Of course, that could be subject to change as the season continues to unravel.

Nevertheless, there's no denying that the league is littered with talented players on the offensive side of the ball. Guys like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Cam Newton, once again, are all producing points at a high clip. This previous Sunday alone, Wilson and Newton tallied a total of 65 points in their head-to-head matchup in Week 2.

Heading into Week 3, fans will be rewarded with a much-anticipated game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. Provided that, there's a great chance that teams break the point and touchdown records for the first three weeks in an NFL season.
