Jalin Marshall has been suspended for the first four games of the 2019 NFL season, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

The 23-year-old signed a deal with the Oakland Raiders on May 7, hoping to fortify the team's depth at wide receiver. He was released 48 hours later with no explanation given.

Undrafted out of Ohio State in 2016, Marshall signed with the New York Jets as a free agent. After an impressive offseason and exhibition slate, Marshall entered his rookie season fourth on New York's depth chart at wide receiver, playing a bigger role as the team's primary punt and kick returner. Limited to 10 games during his NFL debut due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder, the former Buckeyes standout finished with 14 catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Marshall had 18 punt returns for 100 yards, a paltry 5.2 yard average, and garnered 324 yards on 13 kick returns, a hardly spectacular but far more acceptable number.

In March 2017, it was announced that Marshall would be suspended for the first four games of the following season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. After being reinstated in mid October, the Jets released him, immediately re-signing him to the practice squad. Marshall failed to make New York's active roster during the regular season, and he was waived again after signing a futures contract with the team in January 2018, ultimately spending last season playing amateur football in Akron, OH.

Marshall scored the first ever touchdown in Alliance of American Football history in February 2019 as a member of the Orlando Apollos. The league since disbanded, leading Marshall to sign a practice-squad deal earlier this week with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
