The Green Bay Packers haven’t been a team to do things like hold joint practices in the past, but with a new coaching staff coming in, it seems as if things might be changing.

Today, the team announced that it would be holding joint practices with the Houston Texans prior to their Week One preseason game.

According to the team via 247 Sports, the practices will take place in Green Bay, with dates and times to be announced at a later date.

While the Packers have held joint practices in the past, it’s been some time since the last one, but new head coach Matt LaFleur seems to be a big proponent of it, praising its ability to get great work early and limit how often players have to play in the preseason.

“I’ve done it the last two years,” LaFleur said during the NFL’s Annual Meeting in Arizona. “In Tennessee, we scrimmaged vs. Tampa before our second preseason game, which I thought was awesome. You can get so much good-on-good work. And quite honestly, you can practice your guys and not have to play them as long in the preseason game.”

As the Packers prepare to enter a season with new dynamics in coaching for the first time in more than a decade, the team is hoping that holding joint practices will get everyone on the same page quickly.

Of course, the key for Green Bay finding joint practices was to make sure they occur in Green Bay, as the team is infamous for never wanting to lose home practices or games.
