The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders are apparently inching closer to having their scheduled preseason game take place in Canada, according to new reports.

After initially planning for the game to take place in either Regina or Edmonton, the Packers and Raiders are closing in on holding their game in Winnipeg, according Rich Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette (via Pro Football Talk).

If the logistics of the game cannot be worked out, Ryan noted that the game could still possibly end up being played in Green Bay, but definitely won’t be played in Oakland.

Despite being a “home” game for the Raiders, thanks to the situation with their stadium, the team is currently looking for other places to play games. The Oakland Athletics are using the stadium in Oakland during the week that the Packers and Raiders would play, so the team is forced to look elsewhere when it comes to a place to play.

As the Packers have rarely traveled outside of the country to play football games – the last time they did so was 20 years ago – this would be a great way for Canadian fans to see the team for the first time. At the moment, the game is scheduled to be the third preseason contest for both teams, so it's possible that those willing to make the trip will get to see some starters play in the game.

As details get finalized, fans can expect a solid date for the game to be announced sooner rather than later.
