Rishard Matthews' situation seems to have taken an unexpected turn with the former Tennessee Titans wide receiver expected to not sign with another team this season. Matthews has worked out for New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, and the Cleveland Browns but wasn't offered a contract by any of the teams.

“Probably not,” Matthews said per 247 Sports, via Pro Football Talk. “A lot of teams are turned off by my past as if I have some criminal record. Most likely won’t see me until next season.”

Matthews also told Ian Rapoport of Pro Football Talk he feels like the National Anthem protest might be hurting him even though he doesn't plan to kneel again. Matthews also feels that the Titans are giving him a bad rap which could be true but it's interesting that Matthews brings that point up.

Matthews asked for his release from the Titans and basically quit on the team, so the Titans really have no reason to give other teams a good report on him.

There were also reports that when Matthews played with the Miami Dolphins he also tried to force himself away from the team.

It's hard for a team to sign a player if they really think that he will quit on a team for the third time. Matthews is a good receiver but not elite and teams are probably weighing their options. This year with the Titans Matthews played in three games finishing with only three receptions for 11 yards. It will be interesting to see if Matthews generates any interest this offseason.
