Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman finally hung up the cleats this past season after battling a chronic knee injury. But, his former teammate and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Rob Gronkowski doesn't believe he's quite done with the game yet.

Gronk made an appearance on ESPN radio and spoke to Mike Greenberg and talked about the possibility of Julian Edelman eventually returning to the NFL once he heals up:

“Jules was an unbelievable player and he literally gives it his all for his teammates,” Gronkowski said. “I just wish the best for Julian to heal up. Obviously in his little press conference thing, he said he was going to go until the tires fall off and he sure has. So I’m hoping he heals up. I want the best for him. I’ve been in that situation before. I believe, if Julian truly heals up whatever’s hurting on him, and he fully heals and feels good, I think he’ll be back. I don’t know see why he wouldn’t be back, eventually in the future. Maybe a year or two away. Let me tell you: Julian Edelman is just a competitor. So I say if he heals up 100 percent and feels good, I think he’ll be back in the NFL.”

It's easy to understand Gronkowski's take here. He ultimately retired then came back last season to join forces with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay, only to go on and win another Super Bowl. Gronk dealt with nagging injuries as well, yet he came back and played again.

Julian Edelman featured in just six games in 2020 and he's now taking a role with Inside the NFL. Knee problems are a touchy subject though, but based on Gronk's opinion of his former Patriots teammate, he expects Edelman to eventually be back on the gridiron eventually.

Maybe he'll even end up in Tampa Bay as well? Who knows.
