Sean Smith is now, officially, allowed to play football again. He was removed from the league's suspended list.

According to NBC Sports, Smith had his suspension lifted from the league, which now means that he can play for any team that would like him to do so.

Last year, Smith was suspended from the NFL — and released from the Oakland Raiders, where he played the cornerback position — after pleading guilty to a felony charge. The crime — assault with grave bodily injury — resulted in a five-month prison stint for the disgraced player, before he was finally released.

Sean Smith should be grateful, however, as the sentence for a felony assault charge such as the one he was slapped with carries a minimum of a one-year sentence (and, per a different report for NBC Sports, he was released for good behavior).

Smith was once considered a valuable player in the NFL. The Raiders gave him a four-year, $40 million contract when he signed with them in 2016.

However, on July 4, 2017, Smith started getting violent. He first attacked someone in Pasadena, California (and it was this beating that earned him the felony charge and ultimate conviction). Then, it was revealed that Sean Smith was actually beating up on his sister's longtime boyfriend, Christopher Woods. In addition to the felony charge and conviction, Woods sued Smith, claiming that the attack fractured his head in 5 different places causing him brain damage. Woods claimed he suffered from hematomas to the left and right side of his head, and required a metal plate and screws to repair facial fractures.
