The New England Patriots parted ways with all-time leading scorer and longtime placekicker Stephen Gostkowski this offseason, but Gostkowski is still hoping to play in 2020.

Gostkowski told Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston he is feeling good after injuries forced him to miss all but four games last season (via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, as transcribed from Tom E. Curran's Patriots Talk Podcast):

“I’m not ready to just hang it up. I’m gonna try to play. It’s going to be tough to show teams what I can do right now or work out or do a physical, but I’m not too worried about it. I’m not concerned. I kind of take things day by day … I feel good. I’m starting to feel better. I’m trying to keep getting in better and better shape and I’ve probably done more so far this year as I would heading into a normal season so I feel like I’m ahead of where I usually am and I have nothing but time.”

Gostkowski had big shoes to fill when he arrived in New England in 2006.

The Patriots drafted Gostkowski to replace legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri, who made a number of big kicks during his time in New England, including a pair to win both Super Bowl 36 and Super Bowl 38.

However, Gostkowski quickly proved himself more than capable. He was named a First Team All-Pro in 2008 and would later make three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl between 2013 and 2015.

The 36-year-old is already one of the greatest kickers in NFL history, but Gostkowski is not ready to hang up the spikes just yet.
