In the last few months, there have been lingering conversations surrounding Terrell Owens' interest in making a comeback to the NFL this upcoming season at the age of 44.

Owens has continued to float around that notion on Social media by posting that he can still run a 4.4 40-yard dash along with participating in various workouts that showcase his physical ability. With all that in mind, he made it clear on Wednesday prior to the ESPY's that he isn't “not actively seeking” to get signed with an NFL team. (h/t Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk)

“I know that I do have the ability to play,” Owens said Wednesday and the ESPY awards. “I know everybody sees the shape that I’m in. There’s a lot of athletes that play their prospective sports, but there are few guys that defy the odds. I think I’m one of those guys. . . .

“It’s unfortunate that I haven’t been able to continue my career, but again, I’m not actively seeking to get into the NFL. But again, if there’s an opportunity for me to play, then yeah, I will entertain that, as well as the CFL.”

It has been almost eight years since Owens last played in an NFL regular season game with the Cinncinati Bengals where he made 72 catches for 983 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games played. Although he has been able to keep himself in great physical shape, there is no certainty that his body can handle the physical grind of a season at his age while there is still the stigma around him being a difficult player to deal with at times.

Regardless of what transpires, he has already cemented his status as a Hall of Famer as he put together a highly productive campaign where ranks second all-time with 15,934 receiving yards and his 153 receiving touchdowns rank third. He also earned six Pro Bowl selections, five First-Team All-Pro nods, and led the league in receiving touchdowns three times that he racked up playing for the Bengals, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills.

If there isn't an opportunity presented to him in the NFL, the CFL could become a more realistic option at some point this year.
