In a very emotional and powerful message being put out for the public, Torrey Smith is retiring from the NFL.

Smith was appreciative about everything that football has given him throughout his life. Whether it be his time he first started playing to the end of his professional career.

“I was just a young kid with big dreams. I didn't know at the time that you would help pave the way for me to accomplish all of my goals.”

Smith is also someone that took pride in his work as an activist during his time in the NFL Player's Coalition. He was someone that was incredibly vocal about being supportive of quarterback Colin Kaepernick's movement in stopping police brutality as well as helping any community he was playing for at the time.

“My worth as a football player was never only about numbers. And if I was able to impact just one player, one kid, one person, I served my purpose.”

He intends to continue helping his community in any way he can in his post-retirement life. And to continue bringing social awareness to the public.

Smith is retiring at the relatively young age of 30 after having not signed with an NFL team by the start of the regular season. Smith ends his career with 319 catches for 5,141 receiving yards and 41 receiving touchdowns.

Smith played with four different teams in the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Carolina Panthers. He won two Super Bowls in his stints with the Ravens and Eagles.
