The New York Jets made headlines this offseason with the signing of running back Le'Veon Bell. It appears they are now looking for a potential backup in former Baltimore Ravens running back Ty Montgomery.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates, New York is set to host Montgomery for a visit:

The Jets interest is certainly understandable. They parted ways with two of their primary backs from last season in Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell.

Although the arrival of Bell has more than made up for their losses, New York will still need to shore up some depth in order to alleviate any unnecessary wear and tear. Montgomery has proven more than capable of filling such a role.

The veteran established an integral role with the Green Bay Packers. Although he largely served as a complementary option in the backfield, his versatile skill set allowed the Packers to experiment with him on offense and special teams. His pedigree as a former wide receiver could make him a viable option for the Jets in passing situations.

New York is not the only team interested in Montgomery's services. The Miami Dolphins are also set to host him for a workout following his visit with the Jets. His future plans could ultimately spur them to ramp up their efforts to sign him.

It will be interesting to see which team in the AFC East Division is ultimately able to shore up the kind of backfield depth they need.
