This NFL offseason has seen a flurry of changes at head coach around the league. After the conclusion of the 2021 NFL regular season, no less than eight teams are looking to fill their head coaching position.

The Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans fired their coach after the year. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders have to decide whether their interim coach is a good fit moving forward.

This NFL offseason is considered one of the better years for coaching candidates. There are numerous big-name coordinators like Eric Bieniemy, Brian Daboll and Byron Leftwich. There are also a couple of former Super Bowl-winning coaches in Doug Pederson (as head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles) and Jim Caldwell (twice as an assistant coach with the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens).

Well, the latter has reportedly declined to interview with the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders:

That comes after Caldwell interviewed with the Jaguars and the Bears for their head coaching vacancies.

That is somewhat confounding. The Vikings and the Raiders appear to be much closer to winning now than either the Jags or the Bears. The Raiders actually made the playoffs and the Vikings were not far off.

It has been reported that Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and star defensive lineman Maxx Crosby both gave a vote of confidence in their interim head coach, Rich Bisaccia.

Caldwell formerly coached Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning in Indianapolis. He reached the Super Bowl as head coach with the Colts, but lost to the New Orleans Saints.

He did win two Super Bowls as an assistant. Caldwell won Super LVI with the Colts in 2006 and Super Bowl XLVII with the Ravens.
